There are definitely more Japanese restaurants than Chinese restaurants in The Central and the two‑month‑old Huang Ting is one of the latter. Done up in shades of grey, with elaborate chandeliers, cream tables and chairs, and booth seats cleverly divided with high wooden partitions adding some privacy, Huang Ting looked and felt classy. The Imperial special roasted crispy chicken ($16 for half) was simply fabulous—with a paper‑thin, crispy skin and juicy, succulent meat. The deep‑fried crispy prawns with wasabi mayo ($30) were tasty too—the slight bitterness of the wasabi blending perfectly with the crispiness of the prawns and the sweetness of the mayo. We decided to go for something exotic and the braised crocodile meat in “san bei” sauce ($20) did not disappoint with the crunchiness of the croc meat adding a nice edge. The wonderfully refreshing double‑boiled hasma with four treasures in young coconut ($12), which was one of the best hasmas we’d had, ended a great meal that one could find little fault with.
