Montello is one of Italy's more distinctive wine regions. The rolling hills are covered in red, iron-rich clay with natural drainage. Cool air from the Pre-Alps and the Piave River keep the climate mild. The grapes ripen but hold on to their freshness, which gives the wines structure, character, and elegance.
Giusti Wine, founded by Ermenegildo Giusti, works to express that sense of place. It farms 120 hectares across eleven estates, on the hills of Montello and the plains beside the Piave, planting a mix of native, international and newer varieties.
The wines are made under three appellations: Asolo Prosecco DOCG, Montello DOCG and Montello Asolo DOC. The flagships are Oro Asolo Prosecco Superiore DOCG, Umberto I Montello Rosso Superiore, and Augusto, made from the native Recantina grape. The underground winery was designed by architect Armando Guizzo and overlooks the historic Abbey of Sant'Eustachio, whose restoration Giusti funded. The estate also holds SQNPI certification for sustainable production and takes part in the Bee-Friendly project.
