It’s that time of year again: Negroni Week is back, bringing a full seven days of gin, guest shifts, and bar-hopping trails. Running September 21-27, this will be the 14th edition of the global celebration, once again being led by Campari and with proceeds supporting Slow Food and hospitality-focused charitable projects.
What does that mean for Bangkok? Well, five of the world’s top bartenders are visiting the city. Cocktail heavyweight Monica Berg, Alex Kratena, and Iain McPherson will be at Stella Bar at Capella Bangkok Sep 21-24, and that will be followed by Giorgio Bargiani at Aman Lounge on the 26, and back to Stella bar for Erik Lorincz on the 27.
This year, Campari is also taking Negroni Week beyond the individual bar, teaming up with Thai artist Karoon Jeamviriyasatean, better known as ZilluStation. ZilluStation has created four detailed maps tracing Negroni Week bar-hopping routes through Song Wat, Sathorn, Soi Nana and Chiang Mai.
These maps track four barhopping routes. Soi Nana: Chinatown After Dark goes to Ba Hao, Xin Xe Goi, Wallflowers, Tep and Thirty. Along the way, collect your stamps to prove to some weirdly skeptical friend that you did the walk.
Sathorn: Food, Cocktails and Neighbourhood Favourites will see you to Le Café des Stagiaires, Bardo Social Bistro & Bar, Masseria Decimo, Supanniga Sathorn, Giglio Trattoria Fiorentina, Charm Eatery & Bar and ASAI Bangkok Sathorn.
Song Wat: A Daytime Crawl Through the Old City has a whopping 11 stops, mixing historic architecture, street art, independent boutiques, cafés, and bars. Participating venues include Hit The Road, Shunn Songwat, Terroir, Clay Songwat, Tungchae, Skonx, Onest, Kiss Me Doll, Wanjai Cafe House, Khong Suay and Matcha Maru.
And finally, looking outside the city, this year’s Negroni Week goes to Chiang Mai for Space Time, Ronnie's, Bray11, Surr Bar, Forbidden Bar, Brine, The Continental Bar, Bar Not Found, Thuub Bar, Gladwell Cocktail Bar, The White Rabbit, The Bottle Club, Great Shot Bar CNX, InterContinental Chiang Mai, Bar SAN, Noir cmi and Melia Chiang Mai Hotel.
Negroni Week is also getting a brunch treatment this year, with participating hotels and restaurants across Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Pattaya, Phuket and Samui offering weekend brunches paired with Negroni Week cocktails.
Last year’s Negroni Week saw almost 15,000 venues across more than 90 countries take part, raising around $700,000. This year, the initiative continues to channel funds into food and beverage education, cultural and biological diversity, sustainability and equity within the hospitality industry.
