The buzz: While you may think, “No, not another rooftop bar, and don’t they know it’s rainy season?” Blue Sky Bar is actually a novelty in this part of town where the craze hasn’t quite arrived yet. Part of Sofitel Centara Hotel’s ongoing renovation, the bar has taken over the former top executive floor, affording rare panoramic views of Bangkok.

The décor: The dimly-lit entrance reminds us of a planetarium with moving lights buried in the walls and ceiling—a slightly tacky take, which we then overlook completely, thanks to the chic interior décor. The venue sports a cool dark theme and features three private rooms with views of the city. Can’t get enough of the views? Make your way alfresco, where the shadowy theme continues in the matte wooden floor, rattan furniture and plush day beds. Two separate bars and one wine cellar means you won’t have to go far to get a refill.

The music: Mood-fitting, instrumental jazzy background tunes.

The price: Cocktails B230-290, beer B230, whisky B280/glass. Light dishes range from B220-390. Try the delicious and innovative Japanese Roll. A full-fledged international food menu is also on offer, starting from B210.

The crowd: So far in-house guests dominate the venue, with occasional walk-in locals and expats.

Why you’ll come back: Because not many rooftop venues in high-end hotels offer such (relatively) affordable drinks and food, plus the view of northern Bangkok is definitely five star.
