Set in a handsome glasshouse in the leafy surrounds of faraway Thung Mangkorn, Baan Suan Pak (Thung Mangkorn Soi 12, Bangkok, 089-006-6112) is dedicated to all things healthy, from organic vegetables and cooking oil to body products. They also do hampers if you can’t entirely make up your mind up. Check out all the healthy stuff (prices start from B900) before trying their tasty homemade ice cream.

A little closer to downtown Bangkok is the new yakiniku restaurant Seiniku-ten (916/21 Sukhumvit Soi 55 [Thonglor], Bangkok, 081-925-6663). Set in a cute Japanese traditional house with a garden at the end of Soi Thonglor, the restaurant has a la carte options as well as a buffet which includes the likes of New Zealand beef, Wagyu beef, kurobuta pork and sushi. You can wash it all down with Asahi (the current deal is B300 for five small bottles) or sake (hot or cold, B190). Drop by before February for the buffet at B499.

Still in Thonglor, Izakaya O Ryu (1/F, Fifty Fifth Bld., 90 Thonglor Soi 2, 085-918-0762) serves up Japanese drinking food and classic dishes amid Japanese lanterns and Tokyo-inspired wallpaper. Dishes include teriyaki Australian tori (B98), black salmon maki (B200 and grilled sting ray’s fin with salt (B128).

Those of you who thought the festive season was a distinctly Western concept, think again. Chinese restaurant Din Tai Fung (7/F, CentralWorld, Rama 1 Rd., Bangkok, 02-646-1282) are at it too, with the special festive dish of xiao long bao stuffed with Valrhona chocolate and red beans (B165 for 6 pieces). Yes, that’s right, sweet dim sum.
