Opened: May, 2010.
The buzz: A group of friends rented a two-story house and transformed it into a hangout spot where an after-work creative crowd can wind down over booze and food. It’s tricky to find, but this place is fast becoming a firm favorite among white-collar workers in the neighborhood, who stroll in once the clock strikes five.
The décor: Hidden deep inside one of Sukhumvit 31’s many sub-sois, Ambience occupies a spacious two-story concrete house and a garden—a proper one with real grass, tall trees, ponds and fountains. The décor leans towards pop art with Banksy-esque graffiti and sets of color-splattered white furniture. If it’s too hot or raining, step inside the house where you can opt to sit at the bar or on one of grandma’s old couches while listening to easy listening tunes from the live band.
The music: The usual range of Thai and international hits. Head inside for a serving of live acoustic. Watch out for a DJ, which will be introduced after the grand opening.
The crowd: Hipsters in their late twenties and people who work at the nearby film companies.
The price: Cocktails B160-240, beer B100-220, wine B160/glass, B899/bottle, whiskey B800-1,500. We heart the vodka served in a shot glass made of ice (B160). Light snacks are on also offer, starting from B85. We recommend the delicious pork and spinach nachos (B170).
Why you’ll come back: Why you’ll come back: You dig the chilled, drinking-at-your-friend’s vibe and want a place to kick back and have a few with your friends.
