Super Bacteria

Thailand’s National Antimicrobial Resistance Surveillance Centre monitored 28 hospitals across the country during 2000-2010 and their findings show the presence of an increasing number of bacterial strains that have developed a resistance to antibiotics. In short, nothing will kill the nasty bugs. Resistance to last resort antibiotics in superbugs rose from 1-2% at the beginning of the decade to 60-62% in 2010. E. coli also demonstrated 80% ampicillin resistance while children before five developed 47% resistance to penicillin. People are taking too many antibiotics and not taking them properly experts warn, adding that we are headed for a serious health crisis.
