Just like the BTS, the airport link is congested. It’s ironic given that there’s been a lot of news about how the Makkasan station is a failure, but that mostly has to do with a lack of passengers checking in for flights from there, and using the express link. On the other hand, the airport link’s city line is a huge success with commuters, and their numbers should reach 2 million per day soon. To solve rush hour traffic, Deputy Transport Minister Mr. Kittisak Hatasongkroh said that the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) is considering using the fancy express trains on the city lines during rush hour. There are four express train and five normal “city line” ones, so that adding an express train to the city line would decrease waits between trains from 15 minutes to 10. Also, the SRT is considering purchasing more trains. As for the promised shops in Makkasan station, they are due to open in two months.
