Opened: September, 2009.
The buzz: It’s been over a decade since Song Saleung opened its doors to Thonglor’s punters. Now, in an attempt to repair the general wear and tear and also try and appeal to a new, younger following,it’s been given a complete facelift. They still retain their original design which resonates with their distinctively Thai moniker.
The décor: The revamped rectangular building heads north for inspiration with Lanna themes evident from the illustrious red and gold color scheme. Step in and you’ll think you’re in some boutique hotel spa: bamboo fencing, banana trees, resort-like parasols and wooden day beds littered with triangle cushions surround a shallow i-shaped pool. The large space inside houses a stage, DJ booth and a mezzanine level with private rooms.
The music: The usual Thai and international hits with a leaning towards hip hop and “hip house” provided by the nightly house bands and DJ.
The price: Cocktails B150, beer B150, whisky B1,300 and mixers B60. Food starts from B60.
The crowd: Song Saleung’s die-hard disciples, graduating university students and a slightly older crowd in the mid-30s.
Why you’ll come back: You’re fed up with minimalism, and you like to chill, dance and booze in a slightly garish Suriyothai setting—plus the bands are great.
