The buzz: One of the partners from the old Bangkok Bar decided it was time to go it alone, so he relocated the bar from Soi Chanasongkram Temple and gave it a major revamp. It’s proved to be an inspired move and an instant hit: go nearly any day of the week and it will be packed.
The decor: Walk through a narrow walkway between two ramshackle buildings and, looming ahead of you, will be the converted three-story greenhouse-slash-shop house fronted by a small pool, a stage and a few decorated palm trees. The first two floors see alfresco dining areas and air-con rooms (where the DJs spin). Climb to the third for a beach-style seating platform where you can puff away at your shisha while gazing up at the stars.
The music: Three different bands take turns belting out acoustic hits (9:30-11:30pm) nightly at the pool area. For a piece of the DJ’s house and hip hop, gather with the crowds on the second floor.
The price: Cocktails B140, beer B80, whiskey B1,050 and mixers B30. Food starts from B60.
The crowd: Students, late-twenty-somethings and backpackers.
Why you’ll come back: The open-air layout, the lineup and feel-good music you can sing along to.
