Widely known as the world's cheapest Michelin-starred restaurant, Tim Ho Wan closed their OG Bangkok location at Asoke’s tourist friendly Terminal 21 on Sunday—its home for more than eight years—and the last remaining location is also scheduled to be shuttered.  
 
Yesterday marked the brand’s very last day of operation at the Asoke location, and this means you’re going to have to cross the river to IconSiam if you want to dig into their legendary steamed pork buns while you still can. 
 
The remaining location will stay open through the end of the year, according to a social media post from Tim Ho Wan. The reason for the closing, according to a report from Brand Buffet, is due to the expiry of the brand’s franchise with the Foodland group. 
 
A representative said in an interview that the reason they were closing was to focus more on the supermarket business and that the restaurant business was hard hit from Covid. 
 
Previously with outlets at The Street Ratchada and Gateway Ekamai, the spot garnered plaudits and criticism for its dim sum and Hong Kong fare. The brand, which began in Hong Kong in 2009 with Chef Mak Kwai-pui and Leung Fai-keung is still available in a dozen other countries.
