We’ve had our fair share of hip hop, rock, indie and pop festivals through 2008 but 2009 starts off with a jazz fiesta with a slighty serious title: Thailand Jazz Conference 2009. Each of the three days will play host to a series of workshops, contests and evening concerts. Aspiring jazz musicians will get the opportunity to take part in a series of educational workshops run by international pros like Tiger Okoshi, Ron Miles, Eugene Pao and Nial Djuliarso covering everything from composition to band coaching.

There will also be an exhibition featuring jazz instruments, books and CDs for sale. To take things further, enroll yourself in the jazz improvisation solo competition for a chance of winning some hefty prize money. But if you are more concerned with listening, not learning, then simply enjoy the daily performances ranging from university bands to individual musicians, like our local jazz maestro, Koh Mr. Saxman.
