Go Unisex
Following Obama’s lead, this summer it’s all about change, at least when it comes to men’s and women’ outfits. Girls, throw out those slim fit dresses in favor of more flattering blouses and pants in pale and sober colors while guys will be wearing skinnier, (much) shorter and lighter outfits in vivid palettes.
Mix Palette
Not everyone bought into the current gloom and especially not our personal favorites, 27 Nov. They had a definite college grad theme going on, dressing their models in a range of white, red, blue, pink, yellow and pink sporty outfits. The distinctive Fendi monogram also went multi-colored this season appearing on several items, from bags to sneakers.
Recession Fashion
Who says economics have no bearing on fashion? Designers certainly seemed inspired by the current gloom with sober tones dominating the runways. Flynow kept it black, white and polka dot with their mature, classically-tailored dresses, while Code10 stuck firmly to earth-tone colors like smoky grey, bleach brown, lilac and olive green.
Shades of Purple
Perhaps the one thing everyone did agree on was this season’s color. As we spotted on the Asava and Benetton runways, any shade of purple will do, from purple to violet and lavender to lilac.
Goddess Dresses
One way to beat the predicted heat this summer is to embrace floaty fashions. Both Chai, Murawut and Vatit Ithi at the Code10 show took their inspiration from Greek goddesses with loose feather-like chiffon and satin outfits featuring plenty of drapes and pleated details.
Accessory Expressions
Another key this summer is to accessorize! Designers certainly went for max detail with crystals and bling appearing on everything from high-heels to necklaces. Tu’i clutch bags complete the summer look with their gold details and exotic leather skins in various colors.
