24 July, 2012 Bangkok time

The long wait for Bangkok’s Japanese-themed shopping mall is over, for Gateway Ekamai is finally open. With its warm-colored design that blends futuristic looks with touches of nature and the paravents (paper screens) that typify traditional Japanese homes, the mall aims to embody the ideal Japanese lifestyle. It consists of 400 stores on eight floors, spanning restaurants, a supermarket, IT shops, fashion outlets, health and beauty stores and an edutainment center, as well as 1,000 parking spots. The highlight, though, is the Japanese Town Zone, which features a bunch of original Japanese restaurants new to Thailand. 982/22, Sukhumvit Rd., Bangkok, 02-108-2888. BTS Ekkamai.
