BANGKOK RESTAURANT

T & Bar

The new restaurant T & Bar occupies two blocks of the busy Marketplace Thonglor offering an industrial style and rustic touches in the form of stainless steel chairs, wooden communal tables and hanging lamps—all making for a chic hangout.

This laid-back cafe-like venue serves up everything from pastries to breakfast dishes, comfort savories and high tea (Gryphon) to draw in the crowds.

Dishes include the custard toast (B185) and kai krata (egg with chorizo, mushroom and cherry tomato, B155).

Otherwise, drop by for chicken and leek pie (B235), bangers and mash (B285) or pizza (B155-B355) to share with interesting toppings like kimchi or truffle.

The buzz: This new restaurant occupies two blocks of the busy Marketplace Thonglor and ticks all the relevant boxes to make it a chic hangout, from the stylish collection of partners to the industrial decor. The food focuses on easy, comforting fusion dishes and is backed up by an extensive drink list.

The décor: Crafted by one of the partners, who is an architect, this laid-back bistro-style venue features industrial touches through the stainless steel chairs, wooden communal tables and hanging lamps. Still, it does also have some rustic reminders thanks the country chic items on sale from furniture store Roger & Belle in one corner. There are a few tables outside, which is a popular spot for watching the neighborhood’s beautiful people.

The food: The small and open kitchen cooks up a full-flavored menu that is clearly aimed at the Thai palate, despite its global inspirations. It uses organic produce where possible and portions are pretty big to encourage sharing. Try the pizza with kimchi and smoked bacon (B235), spaghetti with Italian sausage and gorgonzola cheese (B295) or chicken and leek pie (B235). They also serve up high tea (B480 with Fortnum & Mason tea, B450 with Florte tea or B750 with two glasses of Prosecco), homemade pastries, and the obligatory breakfast fare like custard toast (B185) and kai krata (egg with chorizo, mushroom and cherry tomato, B155).

The drinks: The venue really has all the bases covered, serving up everything from tea to wine to homemade infused vodka. The wine list here starts at an affordable level, from B1,100-3,000. For something stronger, opt for the T & Bar signature cocktail (Bombay gin, triple sec, lemonade, elder flower syrup and tea, B275) and Death in the Afternoon (gin, rum, vodka, tequila and pineapple juice, B275). The smoothies, like the Kiwi splash (kiwi, pineapple, celery, parsley and yoghurt, B135), are a good healthy option as they don’t add syrup.

The crowds: Very diverse—from groups of girl friends to solo diners and families on the weekend.
