Maison Bleue

Maison Bleue brings Parisian chic and next-level brioche to Phrom Phong.

In need of some joie de vivre? Maison Bleue, located where Karmakamet Diner once stood, offers warm Parisian vibes with decadent desserts to match.

While the Karmakamet shop is still open, inside you’ll find this new spot reminiscent of a charming French cafe, imbued with shades of blue and walls lined with potted lavender.

Founder Jakthong “Mumu '' Ubolsootvanich—who is also a partner in Chiang Mai dessert eatery W by Wanlamun—originally studied advertising before moving to Paris, becoming obsessed with the salon de the culture, and learning the finer intricacies of French cooking and baking.

The brioche is the star here. Try it in the classic French toast, or pain perdu, (B295), a brioche mousseline soaked in Tahitian vanilla custard and topped with almond crumble, almond tuile, homemade creme fraiche, and berries. The Black Forest French toast (B295) is also a good bet.

Aside from the famous pain perdu, the menu is full of brunch and dinner options. Keep it simple with the plain omelette (B240) served with greens. The duck confit (B395) is a richer choice, livened up with a ginger jus and ginger confit, while the Parma ham avocado tartine (B245) comes delicately piled over toasted brioche.

It wouldn’t be a proper visit without trying one of the tarts and pastries. There’s almond bostock (B160), a brioche mousseline slice with vanilla syrup and almond cream; buttery kouign amann (B95); and studded cherry clafoutis (B185). But the lemon tart (B265), made with sweet almond dough, lemon cream, Swiss meringue, and caramelized hazelnuts, and topped with baked shards of lemon-zested meringue, is a must.

Sip on a hot piccolo latte (120), cafe Viennois (lungo topped with whipped cream, B160), or choose from the selection of Mariage Freres teas, like blanc and ros white tea or jasmine mandarin (both B250).

Maison Bleue is open for brunch, lunch, and dinner. Expect afternoon tea sets coming soon.
