The buzz: Drink wine like you’d grab a beer at the local pub—without breaking the bank, at the bar, casually and with the objective of having more than a glass or two.
The décor: There’s something cavernous about the deep, dim room and its bottles levitating at the core of a long bar in the middle of the pub. We’re reminded of a wine cellar, where you can hole up and go through some good bottles without disruptions.
The music: DJ Serge plays a thrilling variety of electro, trip-hop or even latino depending on the night. The WP’s lineup also includes other local talents to make every night special.
The crowd: A handful of French expats high on Stephane Pompougnac, Brie and pinot noir is surrounded by guests and walk-ins who appreciate good wine.
The price: The Mediterranean tapas range from French cheese and Spanish hams to Lebanese hummus. 3 pieces cost B240 (cold bites) or B340 (hot). The selection of 110 wines (with a strong New World slant) starts at B170 a glass (from a selection of 6 wines rotating weekly) or B950 a bottle and goes all the way up to B50,000 for a bottle of Penfold Bin 95 Grange. Most bottles are between B2000-4000, though. It’s a hotel bar but prices are net- cheers for that.
Why you’ll come back: Good electro Parisienne, the holy bread-cheese-wine trinity, and the off chance of bagging a Frenchman.
