It has been a good year for Namsu Shan Izakya—both in the kitchen, at the bar, and in the headlines. Earlier this week, the brand announced they’d be closing their spot at Baan Trok Tua Ngork to open above Rangoon Tea House.
Formerly home to The Reading Room, patrons may know what to expect when the space opens under a new name, previously hosting dramatic and well-crafted cocktails with a Japanese feel.
The Rangoon Tea House has been the gold star in Myanmar dining for years now, emphasizing Shan State food, and their Namsu spot has brought in regulars and fun pop-ups alike. It was a whole new vibe for the brand—complete with good music and better food.
A press release from the management states that the new spot will feature more Shan comfort food and a stronger focus on beverages, including highballs, sake, and beer.
“I’m really proud of what Namsu has been able to achieve in its short time in Bangkok. Growing up in Shan State, but having been guided by the drinking culture of Japan throughout my career, it’s been an honour to share my celebration of both,” Chef Honey Rae Zenang said regarding the move.
Rangoon Tea House has had quite a year, with the opening of the new Rangoon Tea House at IconSiam. The new space is slated to be open in February of this year and is sure to add another level to the venue: dining downstairs, party upstairs on Soi Sangchai.
