Rolling Bar
7 May, 2009 Bangkok time

Opened: April 2009

The buzz: Khun Oum from the Vespa Cabro Club opens up his very own bar/restaurant—speedy service, small, cozy and simple... just like a Vespa.

The décor: Situated in Khao San’s vicinity, Rolling Bar gives off the typical neighborhood vibe—super chilled and rather nonchalant—which is evident from the mismatched furniture, from wooden tables to white stools to red fold out chairs. The interior gives off a
cozy and rather rustic feel: bare brick walls, chipped yellow paint, knick-knack collectables and fixtures like the antique grandpa clock. The popularity of the outdoors section clearly supercedes that of the indoors—well, if you can even call it an indoor section. Considering the exits (and windows) are left opened to aid free flow traffic, there’s an informal alfresco vibe to the whole place.

The music: Live music covering the 70s, 80s and current pop, rock and indie hits.

The crowd: It’s the jeans and shorts-wearing, sneaker-sporting, mid-20s to mid-30s Thai crowd that like to down a couple glasses of whiskey with plates of fried food!

The price: Cocktails B140, beer B65-120 and whiskey B200-1,300.

Why you’ll come back: It’s an alternative to crowded Khao San, but of course, without compromising on the relaxing atmosphere and cheap drinks.
