Kizz
21 May, 2009 Bangkok time

Opened: May 2009

The buzz: For the first time in the history of Sukhumvit, residents of the triple digit sois will get the kind of live music more commonly associated with sois 55 and 63. The extension of the BTS to Bangna may be planned for 2010 (don’t hold your breath), but it’s already drawing in hosts of condos, community malls and bars, like Kizz, a refreshing break from the neighborhood’s trademark “Virgins inside” establishments.

The décor: Unlike live-musica venues in Thonglor or Ekkamai, Kizz is small, compact and plain. Nor is it particularly dance friendly as most of the space is crowded with simple furniture—white high-top tables coupled with black stools are stationed right beneath the elevated stage, while red and black couches line the back wall for those who prefer to lounge in small private groups. You’ll also find a small game’s corner with a pool table and dartboard.

The music: A combination of DJs and live music (11:30pm-12:30am on weekdays, 10:30-11:30pm and 12-1am on weekends) playing the usual mix of Thai indie, rock and pop. Head there during their monthly parties and you’ll come across big names like Mild and Da Endorphine.

The crowd: 20-somethings from the neighborhood.

The price: Cocktails B150, whisky B550-1,450, beer B110-150 and mixers B40. You can also order food (B150-220), which they get delivered from the restaurant across the street.

Why you’ll come back: It’s the only nightlife spot post the 100 mark on Sukhumvit Road that isn’t dingy or for men
