You can keep your IMAX Top Guns and Batmen, because the Friese-Greene Club (FCG) is back tomorrow.

After nearly a year of closure, on June 1 FCG will be celebrating cinematography every day of the month, beginning with the immortal Deborah Kerr in Black Narcissus on Wednesday and the fashion forward horror of Neon Demon on Thursday. On the weekend, you can start Friday night with Peter O’Toole in his pomp in Lawrence of Arabia, or hit up sci-fi noir opus Blade Runner on Saturday and Charles Laughton’s Night of the Hunter on Sunday.

“With a newly-refurbished projector, the images are looking pretty good, and so we want to show it off with some good-looking films,” owner, film lover, and director Paul Spurrier said on social media on the announcement of the venue’s reopening.

If you somehow missed out on FCG prior to Covid, it’s the three floors of Phrom Phong moviegoer heaven of food and beverage, theater chairs on the third floor, and a second floor mezzanine—all for the moviegoing experience. Playing classics, modern masterpieces, local projects, and cult hits, FCG projects every night of the week.

Bangkok authorities saw the word “club” and decided to give the private member theater the nightlife treatment during the Covid pandemic. As other theaters opened, FCG remained shuttered. But the venue, named for William Friese-Greene, will begin showing its first regular movie in nearly a year on Wednesday at 8pm. A formal reopening will happen at a later date.
