Hurray to weekend brunches! Man Fu Yuan Restaurant (2/F, InterContinental Singapore, 80 Middle Rd., 6825-1062) has launched their weekend champagne brunch, which I tried recently. By champagne, these guys mean Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label champagne, no less. Executive Chef Sunny Long has put out 70 dishes for his diners to choose from for just $68 per person (without champagne) and $105 per person (unlimited champagne). There are signature dishes, soups, appetizers, chef’s recommendations, rice, noodles, congee, dim sum and dessert. The crispy sea perch topped with spicy lime sauce was delectable, and to my delight, the sashimi of salmon and live oyster was ultra fresh. I’m useless when it comes to saying no to lobster, so I totally dug the indulgent oven-baked lobster with cheese sauce. For the meat dishes, the pan-seared US ribeye with black pepper sauce was tasty, and the braised rice noodles with shredded duck meat and snow vegetables was a nice noodle dish to round up the meal for once (they’re usually too oily). For desserts, you can’t go wrong with the Portuguese egg tartlets and glutinous rice dumpling with mango—they really are as yummy as they look (and I was looking!).
