The former green Vietnamese sandwich truck is arguably Bangkok's most popular name for banh mi. This Phrom Phong counter focuses on takeaway food but there are some tables and chairs upstairs for dining in, too. There's also a larger menu. Of course, you can still order their specialty sandwiches (B90) available in five varieties: crispy roast pork (our favorite), BBQ pork, Vietnamese grilled pork, lemongrass chicken and tofu.

Nestled just off Rama 4 Road, this place's odd mix-and-match decor belies a brief yet delicious menu of Vietnamese faves. You can’t go wrong with the straight-up banh mi (pork, pate, mayo, pickled carrots and daikon, B160), while the Vietnamese meatball version (B175) is mouth-wateringly good. Another pick is the succulent beef brisket and blue cheese (B200) with a secret weapon of au jus for dipping. The baguettes are great, too: toasted on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside.

Banh Mi Ngo

A 20-minute stroll from Udomsuk BTS station, this unassuming street stall whips up a pretty traditional take on the banh mi. Expect all the staple ingredients—pate, spreadable cheese, crunchy veggies—on a serviceable bun, all for the low, low price of B40 a pop.

Banh Mi Crispy

This newcomer at Phra Khanong's W District keeps things simple. Aside from a few weekend specials (like pho), the menu is all about banh mi (B90-110). We love the crispy pork version, but the "special" made with four kinds of pork is also pretty special, just beware the all that chili. And yes, the bun is pretty darn crispy.

Another newbie, this Thonglor restaurant takes banh mi in a more creative (and decadent) New American direction. The highlight Duck Dynasty, featuring juicy slices of roast duck, is already getting rave reviews.

These guys have been the stars of many a recent market (M.A.P., Sansiri's Winter Fest), and the good news is there's a permanent place on the way. Their fillings stray somewhat from the classics with the likes of ribeye steak, but it's all super-tasty. In the meantime, they are doing catering and you can also place orders.
