The stage version of Haruki Murakami's Kafka on the Shore opens Oct 30 in Singapore
The whimsical play featuring an all-Japanese cast will premiere at the Esplanade
While there are loads of upcoming plays and stage performances lined up for the rest of the year (tons to check out at the upcoming Singapore International Festival of Arts), this one got us the most excited.
The stage version of Haruki Murakami's best-selling novel Kafka on the Shore will run Oct 3-Nov 1 at the Esplanade--Theatres on the Bay, featuring an all-Japanese cast including Rie Miyazawa and Naohito Fujiki under the direction of celebrated director Yukio Ninagawa. Thanks to Murakami's cult following, it's sure to be a sell-out.
Already a critical and box-office hit in the UK, US and Japan, this dreamy tale about the parallel lives between an imaginative and wayward 15-year old boy and a wise, old man is told through a series of Murakami's signature quirky anecdotes and an imaginative set which resembles an art installation (courtesy of Tsukasa Nakagoshi). If you like experimental theater, check it out, even if you're not into Murakami.
There are only three shows and tickets are already on sale, so book fast. Just check out the trailer below if you need further convincing:
