Two design studios and a group of university students are transforming Pak Khlong Talad into a living exhibition using the very same products the market is famous for.

The exhibition, Form of Feeling, is a joint effort from “Humans of Flower Market,” a group of Silpakorn University students who specialize in vernacular architecture; concert design specialist HUI Design Team; and lighting design studio Saturated Lights.

Each is drawing on its area of expertise to help the flower market—and the community that keeps it running—remain relevant after two pandemic-battered years.

The group uses a combination of lighting, color arrangement techniques, and flowers sourced from stalls at Pak Khlong Talad, Bangkok’s bustling main flower market and a popular tourist attraction, to produce extraordinarily sensory installations.

Each installation is meant to capture the emotions people are experiencing these days. One installation, Sadness, sees royal orchids built up like a botanical shower to represent its popular use in religious ceremonies like funerals and merit-making activities, while another called Calm displays a cascade of white flowers to capture people’s yearning for inner peace.

The event will run until Dec 6. Though there is no entry fee, the group encourages everyone to purchase flowers from the market and use them as de facto tickets to enter the event. The flowers they collect will be used in new installations for their next flower-focused exhibition.
