Bangkok millennials are going nuts for a new fad, and like croissants, it’s actually nothing new at all.

If you went to Bonci back in January, or you’ve been to WWA Cafe x Chooseless recently, you may have noticed a long line of people, including celebrities like Ploi Horwang, John Winyu, and director Nawapol “Ter” Thamrongrattanarit, queuing up to take photos in a classic-looking Photoautomat booth.

The photo booth is a project by Sculpture Bangkok, specifically co-founder Luksika “Pyn” Jiradarakul, a photographer and faculty of arts graduate from Chulalongkorn, who developed an affinity for photo booths while traveling abroad. She says she hopes to trigger a similar sort of nostalgia for old-school photo booths among like-minded crowds in Bangkok.

So far, so good.

Pay B140, pose for three shots, and you can get your coveted photos outside the booth. Which is something that might sound awfully familiar to a lot of people but was so outrageously popular that, in January, you actually had to make reservations for your turn at the booth via Ticketmelon.

If you want to join the swell of uni students and creative, trend-forward types getting some cheeky shots taken, you no longer need a reservation, though. Visit WWA X Chooseless from Wed-Sun, 11am-8pm, and Lido Connect every day from 10am-9pm, where Sculpture Bangkok’s Photoautomat booths are available for self-service.
