If you don’t know the lyrical, comedic, sultry talents of Madame Rouge by now, that’s frankly on you. For years, the Madame Rouge performance and burlesque troupe have been bringing class and a little dash of naughty to just about every event worth attending in the city. For the last few weeks though, they’ve been really taking it up a notch, up, indeed, to Mount Olympus.
The Olympus show is held every Saturday at Aesops Restaurant and Rooftop. This high-end space filled with classical Greek architecture (and a little bit of kitsch) was made for this type of show. Aeosps brings the style, Madame Rouge brings the spice.
Introduced by the high priestess of Bangkok sensuality herself, Jade Rouge, the show kicks off in earnest when the gods hit the stage. On the night BK attended, it was Dionysus, Poseidon, and Persephone, each one hitting the god gimmick hard (much to the delight of the screaming crowd).
Wife of the goddess of the underworld? Of course she’s flinging fire. Poseidon, just like he did in the Iliad, grinds wet in a bathtub in the middle of the restaurant.
They switch it up every week, so you never know which gods you’re going to get, meaning the vibes could be a little Bangkok burlesque, maybe a little hen party. Maybe it’ll be a coquettish Aphrodite, a warlike Athena. Go and find out.
BK Magazine does not have a full time classicist on staff, but we have to say, we’re pretty impressed with the artifice,from the chorus and fire of Hades to the little nod to democracy at the end. And then there’s the literal artifice in the show; a lot of effort has been taken for this show—acrobatic hoists, water shows, the fire juggling.
At the end of the night, you give your golden rose to whichever god tickled your fancy, or in many cases sat on your lap or grinded on you until you’re red in the face. You top it all off with the Greek classic of smashing some plates.
This is, as you might imagine, an adults only event. Doors open for every event at 7:30pm, and the spectacle kicks off at 9pm. Reservations are highly encouraged and are available here.
So, who is going? It’s a great spot to take a date, the gals, or just a big crew to rent out one of the larger tables and enjoy the show. Heck, you can even go solo; in the end, only the gods can judge you.
