Technique & medium: Watercolor on paper.
What inspired you to create this piece?
I painted this during moments of nostalgia. When I looked back at my childhood, one of the things that I vividly remember was my favorite Japanese superheroes Kamen Riders. This piece also reminds a lot of people of their childhood. The director Apichatpong is even interested in buying it!
Why did you choose to work with watercolor?
I started out using other mediums like oil and acrylic. But I love the challenge that comes with using watercolor, which, naturally, is a lot harder to control. Unlike oil or acrylic, it’s also so much more difficult to cover up a mistake.
What’s unique about your work?
When people hear the word watercolor, they immediately think of delicate subjects like flowers and landscapes. The majority of my watercolor paintings are portraits, and I also deal a lot with nudity.
How does this piece fit with the exhibition?
This exhibition is actually an accumulation of my work from the previous exhibitions. The V9 piece is in the superheroes category.
