The little green cup signifying the Shell Chuan Chim seal of approval, usually means good food, regardless of the ambience. So really, the fairly bland hi-end cafeteria feel of the place isn’t as irksome as the inconsistency of its food. An exotic ambience, a massive menu of Thai and Western dishes and a pretty extensive drink list: Leelawadee is impressive in many regards—unfortunately, not when it comes to food. Self-titled the restaurant of “Asia Arts” [sic], the décor is all wood, sculptures and paintings of lotus flowers. You guessed it, the result is more JJ than teak palace. (read more...)
This “izakaya party club,” may hit the mark in terms of ambience and drinks but it definitely falls flat when it comes to the food. With its Japanese gateway, wall paintings of Yohii cartoon characters, sushi counter, pool table on the second floor, J-pop and an enjoyable live band, Yohii is a fun Japanese haunt (for Thais that is). Think Korean and you’ll probably have images of smoky eateries where the sizzling fat from the barbecue seeps inexorably into your clothes. Jhong Lo takes a different approach; for a start, there’s not a grill in sight as they do all the cooking for you. It’s a nice idea, but in the end the food, like the service, leaves one feeling a little cold. (read more...)
