Description

Opened: Jan 2008

The buzz: A luxury tapas and wine bar in one of the city’s more striking hotels where you can gorge on bite-size Spanish and Asian treats washed down with elixirs from their extensive wine list.

The décor: Warm and red, with a long brass bar to one side and a glass wall full of bottles to the other. There is a large round table hiding behind a thick curtain. Fine gold flowers painted on the ceiling and chandeliers skyward, painted ceramic tiles below. You can sit either at one of the tables or prop yourself at the bar which, unlike what you’d find in Spain, has seating.

The music: Expectedly Latino, which can be painful if you like Iberian food more than the peninsula’s musical legacy.

The crowd: Young executives with expense accounts, foreign hotel guests and the occasional worldly foodie.

The price: Tapas are B60-620 (try 300-day grass fed beef tenderloin [B620], Spanish cold cuts with Machego cheese and capers [B250] and sea scallops with walnut crust and beetroot caramel [B180]), wine from B320-520 per glass.

Why you’ll come back: The décor is rich and inviting, tapas are a fun alternative to “regular” dining, and the wine list is top-notch. Wiwat Patcharinsak
