Set in the old River Valley Primary School, this restaurant by the Senso Group has a beautiful setting. A tranquil, bright, interior overlooks a small garden and field, with tables just outside for a refreshing alfresco option. In crowded, overly urban Singapore, that alone is a strong draw.

The food is pretty good too. Our starter of seared tuna loin was just right; and our spaghetti vongole  was a large, delicious portion of al dente pasta chockfull of juicy clams. The star of the meal, however, was a house special, suckling pig confit with chestnut puree. The pork was melt‑in‑your‑mouth, with just enough crackling to be satisfying and the chestnut puree was the perfect accompaniment. Our lemon meringue was alright, but was overshadowed by the rest of the meal.

Add to this good service—our waiters were prompt, cheerful and knowledgeable—reasonable prices and easily, plentiful parking (another luxury in Singapore) and you have a winning combination. The restaurant was humming nicely with people when we went and we have no doubt that the customers will continue to come.
