Good Italian with a great view of the Chao Praya is something on standard offer at the Royal Orchid Sheraton’s flagship southern Mediterranean restaurant, Giorgio’s. Recently refurbished with a highpowered electric toothbrush and a visit from the style fairy, this eatery effortlessly manages to pull off a simplified, contemporary chic that is welcoming to young adults as well as families, though families seem a bit more prevalent. The furnishings have changed as well as the lighting, but the place still emanates a warm glow inside and out. The alfresco area, though a bit risky for dining during the rainy season, is nonetheless inviting and would be a great choice in a month or so. Since the redecoration of Giorgio’s, the menu, thankfully, has changed little. Some may find the terrina di fegato grasso—foie gras served cold—a bit hard to take, however everyone can surely enjoy their more traditional radicchio salad. For mains, the snowfish with Parma ham is a great choice, as are the grilled lamb chops with eggplant Parmigian. Pastas and pizzas are all made traditional, “homestyle,” and are sure to please.
