Description
Located on the 7th floor of CentralWorld, Fondooz promises to send foodies to “Heaven on Seven” with its mouth-watering Swiss fondues. The four-month-old restaurant is an offshoot of Chesa, Bangkok’s premier Swiss restaurant, though much more modern in terms of atmosphere and concept. Floor-to-ceiling glass windows allow plenty of natural light to enter the bright dining room. Or choose a seat in the outdoor verandah and observe the bustling street below. Fondooz offers traditional Swiss favorites such as Swiss cheese fondue (B310); capuns (B160), which are described as “Swiss dim sum” stuffed with Swiss chard, bacon, cheese, and onion; and fondue Bourguignonne, a pot of hot oil for D-I-Y cooking of local and imported delights like fresh seafood (B80), Thai beef tenderloin (B120) or Aussie lamb (B180); or the less heavy fondue Chinoise, which substitutes the oil with chicken stock or tom yum soup. While Chesa welcomes a lot of foreigners, Fondooz caters mostly to local movie-goers and weary shoppers looking to rest their feet. So Chef Thomas Novak has added to the menu some innovative dishes to appeal to a local palate. “Thais love variety, so we have added some twists to Chesa’s favorites and created new menus like capuns in spicy tom yum soup and Bloody Mary cheese fondue,” says manager Pairoj Kludboobpha. “We even have jaew dip to go with Bourguignonne and Chinoise fondues.” An impressive finale to the meal is the sinful chocolate fondue (B150 for a small pot, B400 for a family fountain—not including fruit platter). When all the restaurants in the Heaven on Seven area are fully operational, Fondooz will stay open till midnight. But now, you can drop by to enjoy lingering fondue fun or simply for its quick good-value set lunch (B199 for two courses or B249 for three courses)
