The buzz: Astra branches out to a spot not exactly teaming with clubs but easier to get to. It’s preserving an old building— a common trick for clubs aboard but rarer here—works wonders.
The décor: Forty-year-old “traditional” Thai décor and lots of space. You can still see original touches of wood sculpted Thai-style here and there. There is also a seating area furnished with Thai arts and crafts and sparkling curtains. The burgundy red and gold theme is both classy and theatrical and plays off the green and cream at the front, from the gate to the hall.
Music: The old Astra focused on international DJs—expect them to come here too—but that doesn’t mean Club Culture is any less dedicated to bringing you the crème de la crème of Bangkok’s music scene. They’ll be playing house, d’n’b, funk and electro tunes provided by local star party organizers such as Dudesweet, Soundelement, and Hombass Communication.
The crowd: Familiar regulars of Astra but this place seems to be getting more tourists than you'd see in RCA.
The bill: Whisky B160-300 (glass), B450-900 (bucket) and B1,500-3,200 (bottle). Beer B150, cocktail B180-200, mixer B60, vodka B160-280 (glass), B450-800 (bucket) and B1,500-3,000 (bottle). Before 10:30pm all beers and soft drinks are half price.
Why you’ll come back: Astra is now an empty shell open for rental—that leaves few places to enjoy “real” music. So this is why you’ll come back: you don’t want to club to what’s playing on the radio (and in supermarkets); you want the DJ to make you party like there’s no tomorrow; you want fresh, edgy sounds; and you don’t want to worry about what the bouncer thinks of what your outfit
