Bamboo Bar, Bangkok's oldest jazz institution (the original bar dates back to 1953), has gone through its first renovation in 18 years.
Created by Bangkok design studio P49, the new look maintains lovably kitsch touches—tiger-print upholstery, wicker chairs—but the whole thing looks a lot moodier, with acres of laquered dark wood and a mirrored ceiling.
What's more, mixologist Mirko Gardelliano, formerly of Water Library, has also come on board.
His new creations incorporate nods to The Oriental Hotel's famous high tea, as in the Rose Jam Tea Time (B490), a mix of Eros Mariage Freres Tea-infused gin, rose jam, rose bitters, lime juice and ginger syrup, served with a scone.
More classic is the Bamboo Bar Negroni (caramel gin, Africa-formula vermouth and dry orange Campari, B490) which has an impressive caramel after-taste and comes with a coffee tiramisu macaron.
The bar also offers barrel-aged cocktails, bottle-aged negroni (B590) and Bamboo Bar XO Sezerac (B1,300), which started fermentation in Jun, 2014.
Live jazz daily starts from 9pm-midnight on Sun-Thu and 9pm-1am on Fri-Sat.
