Coke is here. Though it is nowhere near the threat to society that yaa baa (amphetamine) is, nor has it reached the public consciousness the way “ecstasy” did a few years ago, cocaine use has been steadily growing in Thailand—most significantly in the past couple of years. The number of drug busts is up, and authorities are catching dealers and “mules,” who carry the contraband, with larger stashes than in the past; both users and cops say it’s now common in many of Bangkok’s upscale nightspots and can be easily obtained simply by asking around or making a phone call to a dealer who is willing to deliver the drug with only a few hours’ notice.
