Zeist, 6th Fratello, Dragon Xpress, The Barcony, Pasta Pronto

Brotherly Love

Chef Art’s French/Italian restaurant Zeist (3/F, Mettawattana building, Sukhumvit Soi 19, 02-651-0372. Open daily 11am-2:30pm, 5:30pm-1am) has moved and will be open for both lunch and dinner early Sep (right now they’re only serving dinner). The new place features a tapas bar, so you can feast on sauteed eggplant (B160) and meatballs in tomato sauce (B220) while sipping your sangria until 1am. The old location has now been passed on to the youngest and sixth brother in the family, for his own Italian restaurant 6th Fratello (40/25 Ekkamai Soi 12, 02-391-9946. Open Tue-Sun 11:30am-2:30pm, 5:30-10pm)—”Fratello” means brother in Italian. Recommended dishes include blue crab bisque (B190) and angel hair pasta with spicy garlic prawn (B230).

China to Go

With emphasis on its delivery service, it’s no wonder Dragon Xpress (115/4-6 F1 Room 1-1 Asokemontri Rd., 02-204-0588. Open daily 10am-10:30pm) has only two tables and a counter. The venue offers a wide selection of food at fairly inexpensive prices with mains like chicken chow mien (B89) and vegetable fried rice (B69).

Chill Out

Boutique hotel, The Heritage, is serving up Thai fusion cuisine at its signature bar and restaurant The Barcony (The Heritage Baan Silom, 659 Silom Soi 19, 02-236-8388. Open daily 6:30am-10pm). With its chilled out vibe and outdoor terrace, it makes a good escape from the bustle of Silom’s busy streets. And their deals aren’t bad either thanks to their B150 lunch set. For dinner, their a la carte menu include dishes like tenderloin steak with mushroom cream sauce, rice and veggies (B171).

Fast Fusilli

Facebook fanatics may already be familiar with Pasta Pronto’s (4 Narathiwas Rd., 02-676-4522. Open Mon-Sat 10am-10pm, Sun 11am-10pm. www.pastaprontoth.com) logo from their computer screen. Having tested their delivery service, the Italian kiosk is not a bad choice for a lazy dinner, when you’re just too beat to go out. The pastas are delivered in microwaveable boxes, making them equally convenient for reheating the left-overs. Choose from their pastas and sauces, the carbonara with fusilli (B95) wasn’t bad, and they were quick on delivery.
