Wine Loft
Wine Loft
July 18th, 2008The décor: The second fl oor lounge is all about relaxing in upholstered chairs and taking in the paintings that are for sale. You can also puff on your Cohiba (B670) in their cigar room (by reservation only). The cuisine: There’s no kitchen so you’ll be feasting on Italian restaurant Gianni’s pizza breads (B220), quiches (B100), cheese platter (B220) and cold cuts (B220). Wine Loft stocks it, reheats it (if need be), and it’s good to go. Their aperitif hour, from 5-8pm every day, offers complimentary fi nger food with your drinks. If you need something heartier, you can also order from the surrounding restaurants. The crowd: An international mix of professionals. The booze: Offering around 400 labels, this cellar is defi nitely stocked. Even more impressive is their Italian wine tasting machine. It holds eight bottles (four white, four red or rose) and replaces nasty oxidizing air with neutral argon gas. You will need to purchase a card, add some credit to it and you’ve got a new mechanical friend to drink with. You can always just get a bottle. Best sellers include the Corte Figareto Vapolicella Ripasso 2005 (B1,250) and the Benni Di Batasiolo Gavi del Comune Di Gavi 2006 (B1,120). No corkage charge, in case you want to share something of your own with your wine connoisseur buddies.
