Where to “Cheers!” Mommy Dearest

Al Majlis

83/8 Ekkamai Rd, Soi Charoen Chai, 02-392-2345. Open Mon-Sat 4:30pm-1am.
This beautifully decorated Moroccan-themed tearoom is ideal for a mother’s day date. Mother should be sensitive to the olden-day Maharaja palace atmosphere inside. Outside, you’ll find clean cut grass and pretty white tents. They have lots of finger food and a whole lot of drinks for you to take your pick while you work on the maternal bond.

Crystal Lounge

28 Sukhumvit Soi 20, 02-258-1599. Open daily 11-1am.
If you haven’t already bought her a gift, then all you have to do is take her shopping here. This bar and restaurant is replete with crystal treasures from jewelry to sex toys (steer mom away from those). Reserve a table for dinner out in the al fresco dining area, under the very Balinese-looking awning made of dried grass, or just sip a few drinks as mom marvels over her new Swarovski trinket.

Moon Bar (Vertigo)

61/F Banyan Tree, 21/100 Sathorn Tai Rd., 02-679-1200. Open daily 5pm-1am.
Surprise mom by taking her to one of the city’s highest and most revered rooftop bars. You can do the whole sit-down-dinner thing, if you can afford it, or just pound some drinks with a beautiful view to leave her floored even if the booze doesn’t. And plus, the visit will certainly produce good photos for next year’s framed-picture mother’s day gift.

Winter Bar (Spring & Summer)

199 Sukhumvit Soi 39, 02-392-2747. Open daily 7-midnight.
How about dinner outdoors on comfy cushions and a few glasses of apple or lychee martinis? Mother will certainly approve. Throw in some cheesecake and you can guarantee you’ll be the favorite son or daughter. Plus, the place has an aura of hip that will appeal to those moms who always want to hang out with your friends or even try to steal your boyfriends.
