This month, Alliance Francaise Theater invites contemporary dances Klaus Fruchtnis, Philippe Saint-Paul and Olivier Vinkler. With more than 20 years of on stage experience, they will take you on a journey with their first collaboration work called In Transit.
Tell us about In Transit?
Klaus: We want it to be something more than just a dance performance; movie, dance, music are combined together. We want to do something new that hasn’t been done before. It’s a multimedia work that is 50 minutes long.
Philippe: The performance shows the relationship between reality and “visuality” (the visual world), where all media has merged, which is interesting. Since we live in a world with internet, TV and 24-hour media, we questioned ourselves whether this is all real. It shows the connection of the reality and visual world, as we go back and forth on the stage.
How is this collaboration working out?
Klaus: It’s different from working solo. You can’t see what you do wrong if you work alone.
Olivier: We all come from artistic backgrounds. In this show, we try to challenge ourselves by taking the best in us and combining those skills together to create something.
What can people expect from your show?
Klaus: The whole performance will be in English because we would like it to be easy to understand. It’s open for all to come and watch.
Philippe: We don’t want it to be like the International Dance and Music Festival where the tickets are so expensive. We want to reach out to all kinds of audiences.
Klaus: We want people to question our work and keep them dreaming about it for at least 10-15 minutes after the show.
If you were not doing what you are doing now, what would you be up to?
Olivier: I’ve lived with music my whole life. I don’t know what to do other than music and art.
Klaus: Me neither. I don’t like doing routine work. I prefer to be an artist and travel around the world because it’s what keeps us alive.
Philippe: Being an artist makes life more interesting. It is all about learning something new and exploring new territories.
