Teacher’s Apple
Teacher’s Apple
August 8th, 2008At iSchool, the curriculum includes computer art, electronic music and, um, gardening.
iSchool is not your regular geek fest. Just like the Apple stores, iSchool keeps things uncluttered and simple in their four-roomed space on the third floor of City Street building. The school was started by a couple of friends who share the same passion for Mac and computer arts. As Akarat Hanmatheekuna, one of iSchool’s instructors explains, “We actually run an advertising agency where we design websites and print ads for clients. So we thought, why not share what we already know with people planning to be in this industry?”
iSchool is on the small side, but that’s the idea. With classes of just 4-6 students, you can expect more one-on-one time with the instructor. The programs offered range from a basic Macintosh course (B900) to elaborate music making classes (B2,900-5,900), all taught on the school’s supply of Macbooks.
If you’re already comfortable with a Mac, you can choose to take advanced lessons in digital design: web design (B2,900-5,900), graphics (B5,900), movie editing (B5,900) and music making. You can also get trained in studio photography (B12,000), basic interior design (B10,000) and even landscape design (B3,000). “Design doesn’t just end at computers. If you can design a chair or a garden in Photoshop, why not bring it to life?” says Akarat.
You can apply directly online but the classes fill up fast so do it at least seven days in advance. If you’re not sure what’s right for you, check out their blog for regular updates on upcoming events and meetings.
