Surf Up Outfit

November 23rd, 2007

Dear Mr. KIA: Though the weather may be cool now, I’m still a summer person through and through. I love the beach and bright colorful floral patterns—and even tanning! I think in a former life I must have been a hot Hawaiian hula dancer or a surfer mama Down Under. I really want to show off my luau pride during this chilly weather, so I was wondering if there are any good places where I can grab some great surfer clothes? Tank tops, shorts, slippers—I want them all! Find me some great shops and I’ll throw you a luau party.—Blue Crush Wannabe

Dear Blue: Ah, wonderful surf culture, where the guys are hot and the girls are
tanned. I think you might be living in the wrong city. Bangkok is inland if you haven’t noticed, and the only thing you can surf here is the internet. Of course if you insist on pretending to be a surfer then I’m happy to provide you with all the necessary gear that will make your dream beach life come true.

Roxy has to be the most famous crossover from surf culture. There, you can get loads of cute summer floral stuff, from clothing to bags, for the ultimate surfer look.

Quicksilver is the original surf store responsible for the brand Roxy. Quicksilver is Roxy’s male counterpart; so if you’re sick of all the blindingly bright color patterns and would rather opt for a pro surfer look, head to Quicksilver instead. You can take your surfer boyfriend to the shop or find a new hot one there.

Paul Frank has the adorable Julius the Monkey as their mascot. Who on earth can resist that smile? Doesn’t really cater to the surf crowd but it does offer some nice summer clothes for your summer itches.

Rip Curl started out as a surfboard manufacturing company but has since taken on the whole surf industry with fantastic beachwear for both guys and girls.

Billabong is probably one of the most well known surf brands from Australia. The brand caters to extreme sports culture from surfing to skating to snowboarding. Of course, beachwear is their strong suit.

Surfer Girl is Asia’s very own surf wear brand based in Bali. They offer mostly girly clothing and swimsuits but if you’re looking for something a little closer to home in terms of price, this store is for you.
