May 30th, 2008Millionaire Moves
On May 16, “Kid Millionaire” Steve Aoki paid a visit to 808 for what turned out to be a master class of seamlessly blended hip hop, pop, rock and electronic. He also had time to demonstrate some of his other skills such as pouring vodka, crowd surfing, speaker posing and showing off his umm... “moves.”
Burma Support
The next night, two parties were held for Cyclone Nargis victims. Organized by Q Bar, the “Burmese Cyclone Relief Party” raised over B100,000 for victims of the cyclone. At Club Culture, Dudesweet, Gene Futon, DJ Oum, Rehab (Bee Futon) and Soma raised over B70,000. Hats off to Q Bar and the Dudes! For more ways to help, visit bkmagazine.com and click on “Be Good.”
Re-Jet
Jet Club (formerly known as Jet Metropolitan) has reopened and relocated to Ekkamai Soi 10 (next to Big C). While no date has been set for the official grand opening, it’s already played host to a number of parties. Expect a full review in BK soon.
Plenty to Beach About
Getting in ahead of the Hua Hin Jazz Festival next month, Honda decided to hold their own little musical gathering, the Honda Ska, Reggae, Bossanova and Dance Music Festival, on Khao Tra Kieb Beach. By all accounts it was far from perfect (a “nightmare,” according to Daily Xpress), unless of course you were in the VIP zone, which occupied 2km of the 3km-long beach. We didn’t see anyone using the sea as a toilet (as reported), thankfully— although there were plenty of people who shamelessly turned the beach into a garbage dump.
