Upgrade your office with hi-end stationery.
Despite Papier’s demise, stationery aficionados can breathe a sigh of relief with the opening of another classy stationery showroom. Kin & Co. Fine Paper (2/F, 49 Terrace, 49 Sukhumvit Soi 49, 02-260-7400. Open Mon-Sat 10:30am-7:30pm, Sun 11am-6pm) offers tasteful, but pricey, tailored-made cards, envelopes, name tags, candles and everything else you could need to fulfill your writing and home décor desires.
Opened three months ago, it has already built up a regular clientele of expats, Japanese housewives and those rich enough not to turn their noses up at paying at least B3,000 for a scented candle. The brands available reflect this market with names like Vera Wang, Crane, D.L. & Co. and Dayna Decker lining the shelves.
A candle is not exactly an indispensable item for your home, but when it comes in beautiful packaging they can be charming gifts. This store clearly thinks so, with half of the space dedicated to scented candles. Their best seller is Dayna Decker, which utilizes a piece of wood for its candlewick rather than traditional thread (B2,650). Alternatively, the latest collection from D.L. & Co. features five exotic scents (thorn apple, lady rhubarb, absinthe, driftwood and daisies won’t tell) and comes in a colorful acrylic bowl, packed in a cute fabric case (B3,250).
For real paper-philes, Crane’s made-to-order letter-heads and invitation cards are the star attraction. With a minimum order of 50 (prices start at around B5,000), you can get personal and select from different kinds of paper, envelope linings, types of ink or pick from hundreds of ready made templates. They even offer the option of using more luxurious materials like leather and soft tissue lining.
It might not come cheap, but those who appreciate the finer things in life can always argue that money is only really bits of paper anyway.
