Slim, Club Culture and DJs

Slim Goes Indie

Slim is “up there” when it comes to live music and Click Radio is heaven to all the dek neaw or even just the neaw at heart. Word has it that the two have lip-locked and are now going to open up a brand new venue to enhance the indie music scene on the RCA strip. We checked with our sources and, according to them, Slim will take on the business side of the new venture with Click Radio in charge of the lineup. We know Slim sort of has the indie thing going on (but not quite) and we also know that P’Tek from Click wouldn’t know much about running a pub. So, well done on dividing up the responsibilities correctly! Location? Rumor has it that it is going to replace what was previously Time Out. However, the schedule of events is supposed to be out in a few months from now. In other words, you still have some time to shop! Super slim jeans, black T-shirts, very short shorts, tank tops and slippers. Wait. That’s for sakoi and van.

Show Your ID

Club Culture = good vibe, good music. Every month, the place showcases an extensive list of international DJs. They’ve also given a lot of young (and not so young) talented, local jockeys a chance. We recently heard that Wednesday nights at Club Culture are going to be called University Night. Meaning? Pop out that student ID and you’ll get in for free. Great! A happening spot to find a young gig. We then overheard that Thursday nights are going to turn gay. Fab! But wait… umm… does that mean you’ve got to pop out your gay card to get in free of charge? Anyway, to dismiss our curiosity, we made a quick phone call to the PR who said, “Thursday is normally free entry and there is a buy 1 get 1 free promotion.” She also said that from now on, there will be big monthly events on Thursday nights… and yes, the focus is on gay men. Uhhh… thanks! But you didn’t really answer the question. Well, we’re  back to square one. Anyone got any bright ideas on how to identify yourself as a gay man? Make out sessions by the front door, perhaps?

Deejays Keep It Moving

If you’ve followed the hip hop scene in the last six months, it’s common knowledge that the Bangkok Invaders can rock the party and provide a course on the appreciation of beats and rhymes at the same time. The turntable artists usually grace Sukhumvit Soi 11 with their presence on Tuesday nights and April 29th was no exception. Bed Supperclub and Club C30 combined forces and brought the Invaders together with their Malaysian equivalent, the Stylustiks, for the “Return of DJ Buddah” fête. The Bangkokian/New Yorker DJ Buddah along with DJ Fuzz, Cza, and Uno treated guests to a combination of rap and R&B from Jay-Z to Michael Jackson (circa 1983’s Thriller). If the goal of the night was to move the crowd—mission accomplished. Elbow room was limited, the dance floor was packed and the house was on fire. A big ole gold star for that one.
