Size Doesn’t Matter
A couple of weeks ago, Sebastien Leger stopped by in our town and gave a performance on the decks before taking off to Shanghai and Singapore. He spun his thing at Bed Supperclub, electrifying the crowd all night long. We were a little bit surprised that he was ummm…short. “Will he be able to reach that turntable?” we shamelessly joked. By half past midnight, size just didn’t matter to us anymore. What mattered was how hot and heavy he made us feel. His house tunes kept pumping in the beat and didn’t even give us a break. Our conclusion: either the air-con at Bed was crap or Mr. Sebastien was just too hot. We melted away by the time it closed.
Cocks and Cones For Good Cause
We told you about the Afterwork Cocktails and Cones promotion that happens every last Thu of the month at Glaz Bar, Plaza Athenee Hotel. So, as good reporters, we went to check it out. B450 will get you four drinks that are concocted by Flow’s team of “mixologists” and some flavorful Thai tapas in cones. You can get drunk without guilt here as some of your money will be given to the Lotus Flower Foundation to help children in need. Despite a number of local drinkers, there was quite a crowd of individuals with fair skin and light-colored hair, with different languages thrown around as if we were at a UN summit. As for their “special” cocktails, they are smooth and easy to drink but if you’re a hardcore drinker (like us), you can just tell the “mixologists” to make it extra strong. Oh, and you have only two hours to down four drinks. So make use of that limited sobriety time and start chatting up and building your network. Here are some tips for you if you’re thinking of going to the next one (Apr 24, 6:30-8:30pm. At Glaz Bar, Plaza Athenee Hotel).
● Prepare lots of business cards.
● Don’t ever take off your jacket.
● Cardigan and pearls are welcome.
● Prepare a list of free stuff you can get from your job—many people will ask about that.
● Take some English lessons beforehand. You’ll need to order in English.
Coming Up Next
Despite the troubles night crawlers may have with men in uniform, there are always bars and clubs mushrooming up around town, starting with RCA. Next to 808, New Kiss on the Box will open its door to all RCA-ers by Songkran. And if you are a fan of Taksura, the chill-chill old-house-cum-bar has just launched its newest branch in Prachachuen (08-1684-0180). Another newbie is this wine bar on Asoke, a part of Unico Grande Asoke (02-677-8400), called M3, which opens very early at 6am until midnight daily. Thinking of getting some drinks before rushing out for some water battles in Soi Cowboy, this might be the place.
Watch Out!
Rumor has it that the men-in-brown are now laying their eyes on the Sukhumvit area, especially Soi 11, where some of the clubs may be politely asked to close early and the party-goers to stop with the dancing. Apparently, they are officially registered as pubs, not clubs, so crazy moves and flashing lights are not allowed. Hopefully, this will be just for a short while. Otherwise, where else can our tourists go? Patpong?
