The Roof
The Roof
November 28th, 2008
Opened: October 2008
The buzz: The number of rooftop venues in Bangkok seems to have doubled in the last couple of years. Adding to the existing list, The Roof Champagne & Wine Bar falls under the larger umbrella of “Sky Dine Design on 25,” which includes the next door eatery, The Roof, and the Mediterranean/French La Vue just downstairs.
The décor: The bar and wine cellars are placed in the center while the seating, ranging from colorful giant bean bags to comfy sofas for two, are lined around the perimeter. Head there after sunset when you’ll find the bright reds, indigos and oranges of the décor and furnishings are lit by warm candles and industrial white lights. Because their focus is on the view, they also have mirrors fixed along the bar’s ceiling to reflect the scenic view of Bangkok at night. Don’t worry about the unpredictable weather as they have extendable shelters to keep you protected from the rain.
The music: Lounge and jazztunes all night long maintain the chilled ambience.
The crowd: A mix of hotel guests along with tourists and locals looking for a complete wining and dining experience while overlooking the city.
The price: Cocktails B260-280, whisky B200-700, red wine B1,500-9,000, white wine B1,500-4,000, Champagne B3,000-17,000. They also have a few exquisite bottles for B120,000. They actually know how to treat their wine here letting it breathe in a decanter before serving it to you. You can also get cigars for B700-1,600.
Why you’ll come back: It’s ideal for those you enjoy the open air but don’t like to be too high up. Plus, it’s a good alternative to the crowded Nest.
