Q&A: Ploypan Taweerat
Q&A: Ploypan Taweerat
April 4th, 2008
Ploypan “Polly” Taweerat, 22, just launched her debut feel-good album, Polly, with Spicy Disc, under the umbrella of the well-known producer JazzInLove. The cute event organizer-cum-singer, sings Japanese Club pop that will put a smile on your face.
BK: How did you start your album?
Polly: I have known a pianist from the Monotone Group for a long time—he’s like a brother of mine. He told me that Tony Chung (also known as JazzInLove) would like to create a cute pop album, so he suggested that I go for an audition. I’ve always loved singing and dancing so I gave it a shot.
BK: Apart from singing, what do you do?
Polly: After graduating from Assumption University, I started working for a company that organizes conventions. I’m still with them and we’re very busy right now!
BK: What do you mean by “Japanese club pop?”
Polly: The sound is like a Japanese pop song but the vocal sounds like it’s a kid singing. It’s the concept of my album. I think this style is not very well known in Thailand.
BK: About your songs?
Polly: They’re infl uenced by different styles of music, such as hip hop, pop and techno. I love them all.
BK: What kind of feedback are you getting?
Polly: Some like it and some don’t. But I love to get criticism because that helps me improve myself.
BK: Can you tell me about the making of your album?
Polly: When I fi rst started doing this album, I was also studying. After class, I’d go to the recording studio, rest for a little bit to cool down and relax—I’d be pretty wound up from having been to school. Listening to music puts me in a good mood pretty quickly, though. As for the rest, I really have to thank my producer for helping me and making the right choices for this album.
BK: Does your family support you?
Polly: Yes, they’ve always supported me. My mother is always worried about me being tired. My father was so proud when my album came out, he sent an email to all his friends to tell them, “That’s my daughter! My daughter has her own album.” He is so crazy about my album.
BK: What are your expectations for Polly?
Polly: The songs in this album are a new style. It’s not like the songs we’re used to hearing in Thailand. Please listen to it with an open mind.
