Q&A: Pattriya Na Nakorn
June 1st, 2007A familiar face in the social pages, “Pie” isn’t just another “it” girl. Apart from being the director and PR manager at Gucci, she is the author of Feeling Good and Looking Good, a model and a TV host. As if she wasn’t busy enough, she just started “Thailand’s first interactive magazine”—Glitz & Glam. The magazine comes with a CD with animated pictures and advertisements, and has links that take readers to further content online.
I buy a book almost every day. I love reading and I can read all sorts of published works. It might be because I strive to improve and update myself.
Books can take me to places I’ve never been. Reading gives us more knowledge and a wider perspective on things.
Glitz & Glam answers to the needs of people in these hectic days. It is a mix of TV and magazine. This is a new evolution in publishing. It might sound too high tech, but in fact it is easy to use. It will make you feel 10 years more modern.
Women need to know about more than just fashion. In the magazine we address other topics, like practical law, fi nance, cooking and social manners.
Even though I work hard, I have plenty of time for my family and myself. I’m happy to just read, cook or get together with my friends on a weekend.
I enjoy everything I do, but right now I’m most excited about being a managing editor. I feel like Glitz and Glam is my baby.
My mom influenced me with her love of fashion and reading. We have a large library. She bought plenty of books. We even keep 30-year-old issues of Vogue lined up on our shelves.
A fashion victim is someone who looks up to fashion but never at herself. It’s someone who loses his or her own identity by running after trends.
A fashionista is a person who can blend the trends of the season with her own style. And it doesn’t have to be something expensive. For example, the metallic trend is in, so you might buy just a metallic belt or a scarf. A B10,000 bag is not at all necessary.
I’m always watching the trends; it’s part of my job. But people can see that I always dress in the same style. You even see me in black most of the time. I wear Gucci because I have to represent the brand.
I need to be ahead of the trends because my job is to predict them.
A good magazine for me has to offer readers everything they want to know.
I’m not a shadow editor. I do everything—planning, editing, coming up with the concept…I believe that if I don’t have the ability, time will tell, but at least I’ll know that I’ve tried my best.
I don’t know what the definition of “hiso” is. I sell brand-name bags and have a good
surname from my father, but actually I’m just a bag seller. I don’t think that my profession and surname would have taken me here if I didn’t have the abilities and knowledge to begin with.
