Q&A: Over Me
Q&A: Over Me
May 2nd, 2008Over Me, a new face funk rock band, which won the One-2-Call U Band Battle ’07 contest, are featured in the resulting compilation album but have yet to record a single. Say hello to Pete (vocal), Fai (bass), Pom (guitar) and Non (drum).
BK: Why Over Me?
Fai: Over Me comes from the lyrics of “Come Together” by The Beatles. “Come together, right now, over me.” At first, I didn’t understand what they meant by “over me,” but listening to it again and again, it just felt right. So, that’s why we are Over Me.
BK: What do you play?
Fai: Our genre is funk-rock and is infl uenced by our American funk rock idol, Extreme. We create our own guitar lead rhythm, though, and it sounds quite new and fresh.
Pete: Actually, we play different music styles. I love pop jazz but Fai loves pop rock, like The Beatles.
BK: How did you meet?
Pom: We met in the international music club at Chulalongkorn University. Then we founded Over Me almost two years ago.
BK: Tell us about your song on U Band Battle Project I.
Fai: It’s called Rak Khue Kwam Thao Tiem (Love is About Being Equals).
Pete: I wrote the lyrics and we then spent two weeks recording the song.
BK: Which genre of music will be popular this year?
Non: The same old popular styles like pop rock, but there’s going to be more influences from funk, electronic and soul.
Pete: I think it’s going to become a new style altogether. I’d call it the “mix” style.
BK: If music was a body part, which one would it be?
Non: In my opinion, music is the heart—something we can’t live without.
Fai: Music is a tongue. You can live without it but you won’t be able to taste anything.
Pete: It’s a moustache! Everyone has a different style, or you can even shave it all off, and it says something about your style and tastes.
Pom: I think music would be my eyes. Eyes are how we see.
BK: Plans for the future?
Fai: We want to make a debut funk rock album. We are composing the songs right now. I hope it will be awesome!
